“Woe is me, that I dwell in Meshech, That I dwell among the tents of Kedar!” (Psalms 120:5)

As a Christian, you live in an ungodly world, and you need to combat temptations with God’s truth. First, let’s deal with hi-tech temptations Spurgeon never imagined. Does your use of media give God glory? Christ said, “It is impossible that no offenses should come” (Luke 17:1), but are you putting yourself in danger? Don’t let your flesh and Old Man rule. This is serious business. Christ says of the servants of Satan that snare Christians, “It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones” (Luke 17:2).

Pursuing pleasure for its own sake is the way of death. God made human beings with powerful sex drives for His glory, not so you could pursue pleasure outside of marriage. “Put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry” (Colossians 3:5-7).

The enemy is ever on the watch to detect inconsistency in your conduct. Remember, the eyes of all are upon you, waiting to pounce when you stumble. Strive to give them no reason. Let your goodness be the only fault they can discover in you. The worse the people you deal with, the more they need what you have; if they’re crooked, they need to see what it means to be straight; if they’re perverse, they need to see what it means to walk with integrity.

Remember, the Gospel “is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them” (2 Corinthians 4:3-4).

“You are the light of the world ... Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).
