“As they pass through the Valley of Baca, They make it a spring; The rain also covers it with pools” (Psalms 84:6)

The “Valley of Baca” means “Valley of Sorrow”. Wherever saints go, they dig pools of grace, not only for themselves, but for those who come after them. Moses dug pools of grace, but Christ became an ever-flowing spring. Where would we be today if God hadn’t led Moses through the Valley of Sorrow to teach God’s law, and Christ hadn’t gone through the Valley of Sorrow to set us free from it?

I would not have known sin except through the law …  Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good” (Romans 7:7–12).

Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe … the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ” (Galatians 3:22–24).

Praise God, “when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born  of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law” (Galatians 4:4).

For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8:3–4).

So drink deeply from Christ’s ever-flowing spring. “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water” (John 7:37–38). “Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14).
