“Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes” (Revelation 4:4)
The representatives of saints in Heaven sit in equal proximity to the throne of their Lord. This picture confirms the consistent message in the New Testament of the equality of saints. Equality in relation to God was unheard of in the first century except among the followers of Christ. Saints were told, “By one Spirit we were all baptized into one body … whether slaves or free” (1 Corinthians 12:13). Slave owners were warned, all Christians are slaves to Christ, and there’s no partiality with Him (Ephesians 6:9).
When we get to Heaven, it will be a continuation of the miraculous access we had to Him on Earth, when He “raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:5-6).
If you’re saved, you already love Christ because he first loved you and died for your sin, but are you hesitant to come before His throne for help now? “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:15-16).
You already have access to His court, and He wants you to be intimate with Him. Every saint has the right to ask Christ for help in every matter, no matter how trivial. Let believers on earth imitate the saints in heaven in their nearness to Christ. May we welcome Christ in our constant thoughts and prayers, and make Him our intimate companion. On Earth, we must constantly approach Him, casting all our cares upon Him, for He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7), as we “rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
