“I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, If you find my beloved, That you tell him I am lovesick!” (Song of Solomon 5:8)

When a saint feels such strong emotions, he’s sick with love “The love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:5). In order to love Christ unconditionally, you must be willing to do whatever He asks. This is a profound truth.

“My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight” (1 John 3:18-22).

If you fear God will judge you for sin, you don’t love Him unconditionally. “Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us” (1 John 4:17-19).

If this doesn’t make sense to you, ask God to help you to love Him more than your own life (Luke 14:26). “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30).

If you only have a little love, get nearer to Him, no matter the cost. The nearer you get, the closer you get to Heaven; peace, joy and love…all depend on intimate communion with Christ.

If Christ causes us to long after Him, He will certainly satisfy those longings; and when He does come to us, as come He will, oh, how sweet it will be!
