“He who waters will also be watered himself” (Proverbs 11:25)

Throughout the Bible, God says give to people in need. Christ connected going to Heaven with giving to others. “Make friends for yourselves by unrighteous mammon, that when you fail, they may receive you into an everlasting home” (Luke 16:9).

Saints give cheerfully. The Greek word translated, “cheerful” can be translated “hilarious”. That’s a good description of someone who gives to people he hopes will welcome him into Heaven. “Let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you” (2 Corinthians 9:7-9).

To get, we must give; to accumulate, we must scatter; to make ourselves happy, we must make others happy; and in order to become spiritually healthy, we must try to help others come closer to God.

How does this work? In order to be useful for the Kingdom of God, we must use the  talents and resources God has given us. Our ministry abilities are hidden until they’re used. When we obey the Lord, we discover the grace God wants us to use for His Kingdom.

We don’t know what tender sympathies we possess until we dry the widow's tears, and soothe the orphan's grief. When we help others, we learn we have the heart of God. Saints often come away more comforted than the people they comfort, more blessed than the people they help. We go to teach the Scriptures, and experience the  reality of God’s Word.

In watering others, we discover more grace than we thought possible. So, “give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38).
