“He shall stand and feed His flock In the strength of the Lord” (Micah 5:4)

One of the most amazing prophesies of Christ says, “The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting … He shall stand and feed His flock” (Micah 5:2-4). This is no ordinary king. The King of kings and Lord of lords is intimately involved with His sheep. He’s the shepherd-king with absolute power, the undisputed God who lovingly cares for His flock. He commands and receives obedience, but it’s the willing obedience of grateful subjects, who He has set free to serve Him.

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.  And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand” (John 10:27-28).

The expression "feed," in the original Hebrew, is “to shepherd”, that is, to do everything expected of a shepherd: to guide, to watch, to preserve, to restore, to tend, as well as to feed. His eyes never slumber, and His hands never rest; His heart never ceases to beat with love, and His shoulders never stop carrying His people's burdens.

Oh! It’s a joyful truth to consider that He who stands today representing the interests of His people is God, to whom every knee shall bow. How blessed we are to belong to Him, whose humanity communes with us, and whose divinity protects us.

“Let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand” (Psalms 95:6-7).
