“Isaac went out to meditate in the field in the evening” (Genesis 24:63)

Meditation isn’t a waste of time. It’s the opposite of what many saints do … surfing the net. They start out saying, “I’ll just check out my social page, and end up 4 hours later, exhausted, and feeling dirty.

God is good company. The most productive saints have times of quiet meditation with Him, away from distractions. We would all learn more of God if we spent more time alone with Him. I know a saint who always wants a TV or radio going …it makes me wonder if he does this to avoid God.

Media is man-made. Creation is God made. It’s good to surround yourself with God’s creation when you meditate. The birds remind us of the sovereignty of God. “Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will” (Matthew 10:29). The grasshoppers remind us why most of the people God delivered from Egypt never saw the Promised Land. “We were like grasshoppers in our own sight” (Numbers 13:33). Sunsets and night skies remind us of the infinite glory of God: “Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard” (Psalms 19:2-3).

So get away from man’s media, and hear what God has to say. “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalms 46:10).
