“And give you a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 36:26)

God promised, to give saints, when He forgives them of sin, a new heart, a new spirit, and a heart of “flesh”, which means a heart that can feel guilt, not a carnal heart.

“I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them” (Ezekiel 36:25-27).

A heart of flesh is known by its tenderness concerning sin. If you have a tender heart, when you have a foul thought, you’ll reject it as soon as you realize it’s foul. If you have a heart of stone, such thoughts wouldn’t bother you. If you’ve never had a tender heart, you’re probably not saved. If you had a tender heart when God saved you, but you’re no longer sensitive to sin, you may have seared your conscience (1 Timothy 4:2). In either case, you should examine yourself, to determine whether or not you’re saved (2 Corinthians 13:5).

If you’re saved, you’re the Temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption” (Ephesians 4:30). “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). “Put on the New Man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:24). The sinner asks, “Why should I weep for sin? Why should I love the Lord?”  The saint says, “Lord, You know I love You; help me to love You more!”

A tender heart is the best defense against sin, and the best preparation for Heaven. “This is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world” (1 John 5:3-4).
