“Knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God” (1 Thessalonians 1:4)

People who are saved know “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will”. (Ephesians 1:4-5). But people, who aren’t saved, could never know this. If you want to know if you’re elected to salvation, there’s something you can do about it.
If you feel you are a lost and guilty sinner, go right now to the cross of Christ, and confess your sins to Him, and remind Him of what He said, “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out” (John 6:37). Tell Him, that you read in His Word, “this is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” (1 Timothy 1:15). His Word says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31), so if you give yourself unconditionally to Christ as your Lord and Savior, you’re one of His chosen ones; but if you stop and say, "I want to know first whether I’m elected to salvation,” your question will remain unanswered.
Go to Christ, just as you are. He said of sinners like you, He will, “open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.” (Acts 26:18). When He changes your heart and gives you the Holy Spirit, you’ll know you’re elected. You’ll be able to say, “I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day” (2 Timothy 1:12). You can’t find it out in any other way. Go and put your trust in Him, and His answer will be - “I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you” (Jeremiah 31:3). There will be no doubt about His having chosen you, when you have chosen Him.
