“Now you shall see whether what I say will happen to you or not” (Numbers 11:23)

God can do anything He wants, but what He wants most is to teach us what is according to His will. God miraculously provided manna to Israel every day to eat, but many complained of the boring fare, weeping in front of their tents. For Moses, this was the “last straw” ... he asked God to Kill him, so he’d no longer have to hear their ungrateful crying (Numbers 11:15). What followed was a hard, but important lesson. God anointed seventy elders to help Moses and miraculously gave meat to the grumblers, but killed them while the meat was in their mouths (Numbers 11:33). This was one of many necessary disciplines of Israel for the good of the nation.

We are to be content with what God has for us. Yes, we are to ask God for the grace to improve our financial, as well as our moral obligations, but we’re not to complain if things don’t turn out the way we want. Our faith in God must enable us to, “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Saints need to ask for things, to the best of their knowledge, according to God’s will (1 John 5:14). You should want God’s will, because you have faith that He knows what’s best for you, and all concerned. This should give you peace. Even if you don’t get what you ask for, you know God is doing what’s best for the people you care about.

God can give you what you didn’t know was best for you in ways that you can’t imagine. This has been my experience. Some days, by the astounding series of “coincidences”, over which I had no power, or even knowledge, God brought about a glorious result I could never have accomplished, even if I could had conceived it.

So, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
