“Who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing” (Ephesians 1:3)

Christ bestows on His people all the goodness of the past, present, and future. In the mysterious ages of the past, the Lord Jesus was His Father's first elect, and in His election, He’s given us an inheritance (Ephesians 1:18). “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will” (Ephesians 1:4-5).

Christ had from all eternity the authority of Sonship, as His Father's only-begotten and well-beloved Son, and He has, in the riches of His grace, by adoption and regeneration, elevated us to sonship also, so that to us He’s given “power to become the sons of God” (John 1:12). The eternal covenant is ours! All through eternity, Christ knew us; and we may rest assured, there’s nothing that can alter or remove the inheritance of the redeemed. We’ve been betrothed to the Prince of Glory. Already, Christ, has chosen to be One with us in spirit, in amazing condescension and humiliation (1 Corinthians 6:17), but soon our marriage will take place in Heaven (Revelation 19:7).

Until then, we must take up our cross and follow Him (Matthew 16:24), but we’re not alone. His bloody sweat, the scourge, the cross, are ours forever. Whatever blissful consequences flow from perfect obedience, finished atonement, resurrection, ascension, or intercession, all are ours by His gift. He hears our prayers, remembers our needs and pleads our cause. “If anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 2:1-2). His dominion over principalities and powers, and His authority in Heaven, He employs for our benefit. His high estate is as much at our service as His blood shed in our behalf. He who gave Himself for us in the depths of abasement on Earth, doesn’t withhold from us any blessing from His exalted position in Heaven. Praise God!
