“Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you” (Psalms 55:22)
When a concern becomes a burden, even if it’s a legitimate concern, it can sap the strength of a saint. The Lord has provided a way to prevent your concerns from becoming burdens. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).
The saint’s normal state of being should be, “righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17), not obsessing over things that have no eternal value. If you can’t give God your burdens, there has to be a reason. Examine your prayers and see if they’re according to God’s will. “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us” (1 John 5:14).
It's according to God’s will that you pray for the salvation of everyone, even those who spitefully use you and persecute you (Matthew 5:44). Always give the souls of people to God, especially your family. Expect the Holy Spirit to bring people to your mind when they need prayer, but leave them in God’s hands. It may be necessary for God to bring hardship before they turn to Him. Remember, you are not God.
The saint who can’t leave his affairs in God's hands, is likely to be tempted to use wrong means to change a situation. When he stops trusting God, he resorts to human wisdom instead of working things out the Biblical way. When anxiety makes him doubt God's love, he’s likely to stop seeking God in all areas of life. When that happens, the saint is fair game for Satan, and he backslides.
So, cast your burden on the Lord, for He shall sustain you. God keeps in perfect peace, the saint who keeps his mind on Him (Isaiah 26:3).
