“He led them forth by the right way” (Psalms 107:7)
When God causes or allows unexpected changes in your life, you naturally wonder,
“What have I done?” “We looked for peace, but no good came; And for a time of health, and there was trouble!” (Jeremiah 8:15). It’s especially troubling when it happens after an extended period of relative calm. “Now in my prosperity I said, ‘I shall never be moved.’ ... You hid Your face, and I was troubled” (Psalms 30:6-7).
Only yesterday, you were sure of His love and confident in His security. You felt, everything would be, if not easy, at least, predictable. As far as you knew, He was pleased with you, so you expected to continue in predictable contentment. But today,
You wonder, “Where is God? Is this part of God's plan for me?” Yes, the trying of your faith, the confusion of your mind, the faltering of your hope, all these things are God's way of preparing you for greater things.
You’re on Christ’s ship when a storm comes. David's words apply to you: “He commands and raises the stormy wind ... Their soul melts because of trouble ... Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble, And He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm ... So He guides them to their desired haven” (Psalms 107:25-30).
What can you expect in a storm? “By honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as chastened, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things” (2 Corinthians 6:8-10). Through all these, the life of your soul is maintained, and by each of these things you’re helped on your way. Don’t think your sorrows aren’t in God's plan; they’re a necessary part of it. “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God” (Acts 14:22).
"O let my trembling soul be still, And wait Thy wise, Thy holy will! I cannot, Lord, Thy purpose see, Yet all is well since ruled by Thee."
