“Marvelous lovingkindness” (Psalms 17:7)
What marvelous lovingkindness, He gave you His Son! This was not the act of an unfeeling king who visits a poor man's cottage. He sits by your side, not despising your poverty, nor blaming your weakness, and offers His Son. If He had given you a penny, the way He gave it would have made it priceless, but He gave you the most valuable thing possible.
He also gave you the Holy Spirit so you can return His love. “He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him ... your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God” (1 Corinthians 6:17-19). He “sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, ‘Abba, Father!’” (Galatians 4:6). “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God ... the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:14-16). “The love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:1).
He also enabled you to be like His Son by creating a New Man inside you. “Put on the New Man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:23-24). “Put on the New Man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him” (Colossians 3:10). And now, because of His marvelous lovingkindness, you, “with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
The way to return His love is clear. “Be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power” (Colossians 1:9-11).
