“Who gives us richly all things to enjoy” (1 Timothy 6:17)
If you think God blesses you because of what you’ve done for Him since He saved you, you don’t yet understand your salvation. God blesses you because of a covenant which He planned before time. Your name was “written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 13:8). He brought you to Christ (John 6:44), as part of the covenant He made with Abraham. “You shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you” (Genesis 12:2-3). You came into the covenant by Christ. “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ ... And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:26-29).
Who can know the number of His benefits, or recount the list of His bounties? Every grain of sand which drops in the hourglass of time speaks of endless grains of mercy to come. “Blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore” (Genesis 22:17). The countless stars are the standard bearers of innumerable blessings. The particles of sand can’t begin to represent His acts of lovingkindness towards His people.
Let’s talk about blessings. Nothing happens to you that He doesn’t cause or allow. That’s why He tells us in His Word, “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18), and “giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20-21). Knowing God is ultimately in control over every aspect of your life IS THE SECRET OF CONTENTMENT. “Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content” (1 Timothy 6:6-8). “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-8).
