“Joint heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:17)
The Father has appointed Christ “heir of all things” (Hebrews 1:3), and since we are joint heirs with Christ, all things belong to us. “For all things are yours … things present or things to come - all are yours. And you are Christ's, and Christ is God's” (1 Corinthians 3:21-23). The golden streets of paradise, the pearly gates, the river of life, the transcendent bliss, and the unutterable glory, are committed to us for our everlasting possession. “You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:7).
Crown the head and the whole body shares the honor. Christ's throne, crown, scepter, palace, treasure, robes, heritage, are yours. Christ said to His father, “the glory which You gave Me I have given them” (John 17:22). “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full” (John 15:11).
The smiles of His Father are all the sweeter to Him, because His people share them. The honors of His kingdom are more pleasing, because His people appear with Him in glory. His victories mean more to Him because they’ve taught His people how to overcome the world. “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation” (Isaiah 61:10). He delights in His throne, because there’s a place for us. God has “made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:5-6).
