“I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20)

God is the only Being that is always the same, and who will always be with you. It’s a good thing there’s One stable Rock amidst the billows of the sea of life. Oh, my soul, don’t set your affections on rusting, moth-eaten, decaying treasures, but set your heart on Him who abides forever faithful to you. Don’t build your house on the moving quicksand of the deceitful world, but place your hopes upon the Rock of Ages, which, amid descending rain and roaring floods, stands immovably secure.

My soul, I charge you, lay up your treasure in the only secure vault; store your jewels where you can never lose them. Put your all in Christ; set all your affections on Him, all your hope in what He’s done, all your trust in His saving blood, all your joy in His Presence, and you’ll be able to laugh when you lose the things of this world when disaster comes.

Remember, all the flowers in the world's garden fade by turns, and the day will come when nothing will be left but the black, cold earth. Death's black extinguisher must soon put out your candle. But oh! how sweet it will be to have sunlight when the candle is snuffed out! The dark flood will soon separate you from what you’ve trusted in; so, join your heart to God who’ll never leave you; trust yourself to the One who’ll go with you through the black and surging current of death's stream, and who’ll land you safely on the celestial shore, and make you sit with Him in heavenly places, forever.

Go, sorrowing son of affliction, tell your secrets to the Friend who sticks closer than a brother. Entrust your concerns to the One who’ll never be taken from you, who’ll never leave you, and who’ll never let you leave Him, for, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). When everyone else abandons me, “I am with you always” is enough for my soul to live on.
