“But now Christ is risen from the dead” (1 Corinthians 15:20)
The whole system of Christianity rests on the fact that “Christ is risen from the dead”; for, “if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty … you are still in your sins!” (1 Corinthians 15:14-18).
The divinity of Christ is proved by His resurrection, since He was “declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead” (Romans 1:4-5).
Christ's sovereignty depends on His resurrection, “for to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living” (Romans 14:9-10).
Our justification depends on Christ's triumphant victory over death and the grave; for He was “delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification” (Romans 4:23).
Our regeneration depends on His resurrection, for God has “begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3).
“If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Romans 8:11).
If Christ isn’t risen, then you won’t be raised. But if He’s risen, those who’ve fallen asleep in Christ are alive (1 Corinthians 15:16-18). Thus, the silver thread of resurrection runs through all our blessings, from regeneration onwards to eternal glory, and binds them together.
"The promise is fulfill'd, Redemption's work is done, Justice with mercy's reconciled,
For God has raised His Son."
