“Jesus said to him, 'Rise, take up your bed and walk'" (John 5:8)
The man who was healed that day hoped his healing would come through a miracle, and it did. But it didn’t come because of anything he did. We don’t know how many days or years he sat there, waiting for the stirring of the pool. We don’t know how close he came, to being the first to touch the waters, only to lose out to another invalid.
Salvation is the only miracle that lasts for eternity. Every physical healing Christ did was nothing compared to the miracle of regeneration and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Hopefully, God will give you both physical and spiritual healing, but if you had to choose between the two, remember, “what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew 16:24-26).
Are you waiting for a sign before you’ll trust in Christ as your Savior and Lord? Are you expecting Him to force you to your knees? Many church-goers are waiting for the right time. “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2). “Times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30). “Do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?” (Romans 2:4).
So don’t be like the man who waited thirty-eight years for his miracle. “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out” (John 6:35). “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
