“Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ” (Philippians 1:27)
Based on the original Greek, this could be translated, “only prove by your behavior you obey the Gospel of Christ”. It reminds us of the commandment, “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain” (Exodus 20:7). “In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God” (1 John 3:10).
The Gospel calls you to be modest. Christians should be simple and plain in their appearance. This can apply to men and women: “adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation” (1 Timothy 2:9).
The Gospel calls you to be holy.. “Abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul” (1 Peter 2:11). “Not conforming yourselves to the former lusts … but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct” (1 Peter 1:14-15).
The Gospel calls you to love God, not the world. “If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life - is not of the Father but is of the world” (1 John 2:15-16).
“This is the love of God, that we keep His commandments” (1 John 5:2).
The Gospel calls you to love the saints. “Love one another; as I have loved you … By this all will know that you are My disciple” (John 13:34-35). “Walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love” (Ephesians 4:1-2).
The Gospel calls you to tell others about Christ. “Whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32-33).
