“I am the rose of Sharon” (Song of Solomon 2:1)

Whatever beauty there is in the material world, Jesus Christ first possesses in the spiritual world. Every time you see a sunset or night sky that takes your breath away; every time your heart swells when you hear a symphony; every time you are humbled by a selfless act of kindness, you know, since all good things come from God (James 1:17), you can see and hear and feel Christ. “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible ... and in Him all things consist” (Colossians 1:16-17).

"I am the rose of Sharon." This was the best and rarest of roses. Jesus is not "the rose" alone, He is "the rose of Sharon", the loveliest. He is the prototype for everything lovely. Every love song ever written can be traced back to God, for He’s the only good being (Mark 10:18), and all good things, including unselfish love, come from Him. God shares His love, not because we deserve it, but because He, Himself, is unselfish love. “For love is of God ... He who does not love does not know God, for God is love” (1 John 4:7-8).

Everyone knows about Christ. “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made ... so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20). But only those who have become one spirit with God, have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16-17). The beauty of Christ comes to us every time we eat or drink or use, with thankfulness, the things He gives us (1 Timothy 6:17). "Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me” (Jeremiah 9:23-24). “What do you have that you did not receive?” (1 Corinthians 4:7). “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God” (1 Corinthians 2:12).
