“Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, And attend to your herds” (Proverbs 27:23)
Every businessman, regularly takes an inventory of his assets and deficits to determine if he’s making a profit or loss. If he’s losing money, he quickly evaluates where things have gone wrong. Every saint who’s wise in the kingdom of Heaven, will submit to spiritual examination, and ask His master, “Search me, O God … see if there is any wicked way in me” (Psalms 139:23-24).
Unlike worldly business, the success or failure of a saint depends only on obedience to God. If, you could gain the whole world and lose your soul, your life would be a complete failure, but saints need to “receive with meekness the implanted Word … be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (James 1:21-22).
Examine yourself this evening. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Humbly ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the true condition of your heart while reading Scripture. “The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit … and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
You want to expose carnal security, fleshly confidence, and false peace. The sacrifice of Christ wasn’t made for you to be a hypocrite.
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded … Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up” (James 4:8-10).
