“And David said in his heart, “Now I shall perish someday by the hand of Saul” (1 Samuel 27:1)
This was definitely a lack of faith for David. Though David had many close brushes with death, God miraculously kept him safe through every trial, just like you. “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:37–39).
When David was finally made king of all Israel, he could say, “we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28), and “what Saul meant for evil against me;  God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20).
We’ve gone through many trials, but never to our detriment, always to our advantage; and the conclusion from our past experience is, that He who’s been with us in six troubles, will not forsake us in the seventh. What we’ve known of our faithful God, proves that He’ll keep us to the end. Let’s not, then, reason contrary to evidence. How can we ever be so ungrateful to doubt God? The worst thing that can happen to a saint is He’s taken to Heaven sooner than he expected.
