“Our heart shall rejoice in him” (Psalms 33:21)
Whatever their season of life, saints have the confidence of “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). It’s an amazing and wonderful reality that Christians can rejoice even in the deepest distress. Whatever trouble surrounds them, they know, “The Lord your God in your midst … He will quiet you with His love” (Zephaniah 3:17). Troubles may wash over them like waves, but they can stand firm, knowing, “Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved” (Psalms 16:7).
It’s Christ IN you, that makes all the difference. The presence of the Son of God fills your heart with hope and love. “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:5).
When you’re sick and suffering, God promised, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God: (Isaiah 43:2-3).
And when you die, Christ promised, “whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die” (John 11:26). “Do not fear … it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32). Thus strengthened and consoled, the believer is willing to depart this life, for he knows the same Christ who lives IN him, will welcome him in Heaven. “For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known” (1 Corinthians 13:12).
