“Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day” (Psalms 25:5)

How does the saint wait on God? When he’s tempted to return to sin, he remains submitted to the Lordship of Christ, and expects the Holy Spirit to help him solve problems with integrity. “Do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit” (Roman 8:1). Over time, the saint exchanges the lust of the flesh and the pride of life for the love of God and learns to boasts only in Christ. “God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world” (Galatians 6:11).

This sanctification process is cooperative. Saints are led by the Holy Spirit, not driven. We voluntarily give up the world in exchange for God. “I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:  I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:11-13).

Reader, is Christ your life? If you’re a saint, the way you grow is by submitting everything to Him as your Lord. “Run with endurance the race that is set before us,  looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2). “God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13). The Greek words translated “endurance” and “bear it” mean “stay under”. For the Christian, this means “stay under the Lordship of Christ”. For more on this subject, click here.
