“Who went about doing good” (Acts 10:38)
Why do Christians, like Christ, do good? Because they are IN Christ, who has changed their nature to be like Him. “If anyone is IN Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Why do Christians enjoy doing good? “Love has been perfected among us … We love Him because He first loved us” (1 John 4:17-19).
What other reasons do Christians have to be good? God owns us. “Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit … you are not your own …you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
If you would do good like Christ, give to others with a kind look and word. Speak to a friend about his soul; your loving appeal will have more influence than a hundred tracts. Christ not only did good to His immediate friends, but sought strangers to help. His reputation was known everywhere He went. This challenges the isolationist mentality of many congregations.
Let’s gird up the loins of our mind, and be not weary in well doing (Galatians 6:9). Christ “went about doing good”, and so should we. He was never stopped by danger or difficulty. He sought out the objects of His gracious intentions. So must we. If Satan has developed new ways to enslave sinners, ask the Holy Spirit to give you new ways to preach the Gospel. Christ left us an example, so we could follow “in His steps” (1 Peter 2:21).
