“They immediately left their nets and followed Him” (Mark 1:18)
When they heard the call of Jesus, Simon and Andrew obeyed at once without hesitation. Probably you think you would have obeyed Christ immediately like they did, if you were there. Thinking and doing aren’t the same thing. This is proved by the fact that we don’t quickly conform our lives to what we read in Scripture, even when we know, it would be pleasing to God.
Reading Scripture without doing it is like a man who looks at food without eating it. Only the person who eats a meal derives the benefit of it. Only the saint who does the Word of God benefits by it.
“Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does” (James 1:22-25).
Many saints are deprived of the benefit of Scripture because they don’t do what they know they’re supposed to do. They entertain an idea for a season, a flower blooms in their mind, but because they don’t act on it, they produce no fruit! They wait, they waver, and then they forget. The dreams for tomorrow should never prevent the actions that are needed today.
When the Holy Spirit quickens a Scripture, prove it’s true by acting on it before the holy glow has departed. When Christ calls, leave your nets and obey Him. Don’t give Satan an advantage. Don’t be caught in your own net of worldliness. Those who give themselves wholeheartedly to the Master, will have great honor. Grant this, Oh Lord, for me!
